Experimental validation of radiometric sensitivity in correlation radiometers - Electronics Letters

چکیده
Assuming a symmetric transmit filter for which the receive filter is to be optimised, we expect the symmetric receive fdter coefficients (eqn. 12) to be practically the same as those for the nonsymmetric filters (eqn. 5). This is verified by a set of examples with different receive filter lengths NR and transmit filter excess bandwidth values a. An AWGN channel with SNR = 8dB (i.e. no linear distortion) is assumed and the transmit filter was chosen to be an RRC filter of length NTc = 25, employing the given a. The values of the normalised MSE between the two solutions are shown in Table 1. It is seen that the MSE difference is always < 0.3%, thus confirming that the resulting filters are the same for all practical purposes.

Ground-based millimeter and submillimeter-wave radiometry for the observation of the Arctic atmosphere
Microwave radiometers working at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths show enhanced sensitivity to low contents of water vapor and cloud liquid in the atmosphere with respect to conventional radiometers working at centimeter wavelengths. This enhanced sensitivity gives particular interest to high-frequency radiometers for the accurate observations in extreme dry and cold conditions typical ...
متن کاملPrinciples of Surface-based Microwave and Millimeter wave Radiometric Remote Sensing of the Troposphere
Surface-based radiometric measurements of tropospheric parameters have long provided useful measurements of temperature, water vapor, and cloud liquid. In this paper, a general overview of physical fundamentals, measurement techniques, and retrieval methodology is given. Then several contemporary instruments are discussed and representative results are presented. Recent and promising developmen...

متن کاملL-band ice-sheet brightness temperatures at Dome C, Antarctica: spectral emission modelling, temporal stability and impact of the ionosphere
The temporal thermal stability, size, structure and spatial uniformity of Antarctic Plateau regions such as Dome C make them ideal candidates for external calibration and validation, or radiometric performance monitoring of planned space-borne L-band radiometers such as the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) radiometer. As experimental observations do not exist at this frequency, a combina...

As a part of the pre-flight calibration and validation activities for the Ocean Color and Temperature Scanner (OCTS) and the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) ocean color satellite instruments, a radiometric measurement comparison was held in February 1995 at the NEC Corporation in Yokohama, Japan. Researchers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Nat...
